Is There a True Answer to the Best Website to Write for as a Beginning Blogger? (Challenge Day: Five)
I’ll find out at the end of this sixty-day challenge.
I’ve been writing stories since almost the first time I could put pen to paper, but only in the past year or so did I learn I could make money by writing online.
Sometime last year an author’s channel I watch, announced that along with youtube, they also make a small income writing through a site called Medium.
I was intrigued as it was a site I never heard of and decided to sign up, pay a monthly due, and see if this is where I could make my riches.
Spoiler! It wasn’t
In my first year on Medium, I told myself I was going to post every day and make a real habit of posting to this online blogging site as well as my day job.
In the first month of October 2020, I posted 8 stories and made a whopping $3.56.
Wow! I could only go up from here, right? It would only be a matter of time before I was raking in the big bucks and able to afford that dream trip to Europe I’ve been pining for since high school.
I was WRONG. Dead… dead wrong.
Not that it couldn’t have happened, but I made the biggest mistake any Medium blogger could have made.
I stopped posting.
From then on for the next two years, I would randomly have these writing sprints and bursts of energy that I would tell myself was the new start of that great publishing for 30 days straight challenge.
NOPE, still didn’t happen.
I joined Medium in 2020 and the 36 stories I posted have made me a grand whopping total of $14.98.
Now isn’t that something to write home about and shout from the nearest rooftop?
Now I don’t know about you, but my daily feed is filled with nothing but articles titles things such as Writers! Use This Site to Make Thousands of Dollars or Writer’s Need to Know About This Money Making Website, and my personal favorite, I made Seven Figures With ONE Article and YOU Can Too!
Of course, I still click on these articles, but never once are they filled with useful information on how to replicate this process.
What’s my solution?
I’m going to try every single one of them for 60 days straight and no excuses. Unless of course, major life treating extenuating circumstances arise, and even then if I can still type, I can still get my article in for the day.
What’s the challenge?
For sixty days, starting February 1st I’m going to be posting an article daily on the following sites:
Medium
Vocal
Substack
Simily
WordPress (In a newly created personal blog)
In addition, I will also make sure to make daily posts to:
Facebook
Instagram
Twitter
Pinterest
With a weekly video posted every Wednesday on Youtube.
This last one is running a bit behind already for this week since I have no idea how to make a Youtube video.
I’m an introverted author, I don’t enjoy putting my face in front of a camera or recording my voice, but for this challenge, I’m going to try and push the anxiety aside and give it my best shot.
My goal is to find out which of these sites is worth the effort and if the secret to online writing riches and fame is really in the daily posting.
Want to see how this goes?
Check back on Thursday, March 3rd for the first update and then the final update on Saturday, April 2.
What makes this time completing this challenge different from those other times?
Accountability and a reward system.
My loving boyfriend will be checking in on me daily and we will be holding each other accountable as he works on growing his Twitch account where he stream’s his favorite games three times a week. The other days he plans on making daily social media posts to grow his audience as I do the same for my author pages.
You can find him here:

My reward system is that I get to order my favorite takeout on Saturdays if I complete all my work for the week and for every two weeks I complete all requirements I get to skip a run since at the same time as doing this challenge I am also training to run my first marathon.
This article now makes day five and I’m feeling great about it so far! This next week I plan to bulk write a few articles and get started on the youtube videos that I can so that I can take a day off at least once on this 60-day journey.
Wish me the best of luck!
With love,
B.K.
